Sadly I find this to be an accurate description of the current trend in the United States — judging from my discussions with peers.
An annual study of drug use carried out by the University of Michigan has uncovered a disturbing new trend in teen drug abuse. While figures suggest that alcohol and illegal drug use are in slight decline, the abuse of legal drugs is said to be on the rise. Teens are now turning to prescription pain medicine, cough syrup and other prescription pills to get high. Partnership for Drug Free America said that this unfortunate trend represented a whole new tier of drug abuse.
